To increase efficiency and reduce operational costs, the City of Garnett will be implementing a new, revised route system for weekly trash pick up for all refuse customers. This change will take effect on Monday, April 18, 2022.
The City Refuse Department will utilize one trash truck with a three-person crew and begin picking up trash earlier in day. This will allow for more trash to be picked up in a day.
The Refuse Department is asking all City of Garnett refuse customers to have their trash ready for pick up by 6:00 a.m. on the newly scheduled route day. For more information, please visit www.simplygarnett.com or call Garnett City Hall, 785-448-5496 during regular business hours.
The City of Garnett requests that you refrain from blowing your grass clippings into the street when mowing and to keep leaves in the fall from lying in the curbs because it causes storm water drainage issues. Therefore, because the Trash Department cannot pick up grass clippings, leaves and brush, the City offers a special yard waste pick-up on the last Friday of each month for a reasonable charge. Please call City Hall to be placed on the list for the Yard Waste Pick-Up Program.
Trash service is provided for all city residents on a weekly basis. In the event of a holiday when City Hall is closed, your trash will be picked up one day later. Trash is to be placed in the alley by 6:00 a.m. to insure pickup. IF you have no alley, please place your trash along the curb. The City does not provide special receptacles or bags. The City asks that you do not place your trash in a container bigger than 30 gallons. To find out what day of the week the refuse service is provided in your neighborhood, contact City Hall.
Special pick-up of unwanted items, such as furniture, appliances (not containing Freon) and other household items is available to city residents. This also includes large piles of brush which cannot be included for the monthly yard waste pick-up fee due to size. The charge for this Special Pick-Up service is $50 for up to a full dump truck load, as well as the landfill fee. To request this service, please contact City Hall, 785.448.5496.
